Music video
For my music video, I plan to use a range of media language
to create a pop song for a fun loving mass market demographic of 16-25 year
olds. The song that has been chosen is "Best day of my life" by
American Authors. Our plan to interpret the song as an ironic reading of the
lyrics and therefore reflecting Goodwin's theory that music video visuals
reflect the lyrics. I plan to use performance and narrative. The narrative will draw
directly on the lyrics by using a postmodern/exaggerated representation of the
best things in the character’s life. There will be cross over between the
narrative and performance as the singer opens his house door and it cross cuts to him opening another the door to the sound booth. A feature that I plan to use in my music video is the idea of the main character winning a lottery ticket for a lot of money. Another feature is that someone is always going to open the door for the protagonist. The character is going to start off wearing clothes with holes and dirty shoes to give the audience the idea that he is poor but as soon as he wins the lottery ticket, he will buy a whole new outfit that shows the ironic and exaggerated nature of the win. The video creates humor for the young mass market fun-loving demographic through the exaggeration and happiness of what features in the video and how the characters act, dress and communicate.
Website
For my website, which is going to
look very professional, will have two pages on it. The first page is going to be
the home page showing a picture of the band and their name at the top. Below
the image, there will be a description of the band explaining many different
pieces of knowledge about them for example when they formed, where they originate from, what they have achieved, the members and what instrument they play within the band. Sony would want to promote this band because it could infer to the audience that if you put your mind to something, you can achieve anything. On the first page, there will be information for a meet and greet with the band members and too also take part in a question and answer session. This could benefit the band and producers because the audience could mention what they enjoyed about the video and what they disliked about the video as well as asking questions that they have on their mind. Furthermore, this then proves that the barriers on social media between artists and audience have been broken down. It is important for Sony to make sure that the band have a cross convergent platform in order to make as much profit as possible. The second page is a music/tour page. This will show albums/singles they have released and finally a tour section
showing dates and locations. Also, on this page, the music video link will
be displayed so the audience can see it very clearly. The colour scheme of my
website is going to be blue, white, a little bit of red and also a little bit of black (for the subheadings). The colours red, white and blue link to the British flag colours because my band originate from Britain. My band name is called "Evolution". The reason why I picked the name "Evolution" is because the main focus for my band is to change and to become something better than before. My band name also links to the British industrial revolution because our country was changing at that point in time and thats why the meaning of my band is CHANGE. Finally, there
will be another video showing the behind the scenes/bloopers of producing the music video
so the audience can get an insight of what goes into making a video and how
much effort it takes.
The band photo on the website will
relate to the story line of the video with the effect of over exaggeration. The
band members will be acting very happy and joyful in the photo to show this.
Secondly, the website colour scheme is red, white and blue which is the colours
of the Great Britain flag. This will relate to my music video because there
will be some elements of activities people do in Great Britain. The music video
and the website will both show the name of the band and the company’s logo.
This will be good for both the band and company because they will be able to
earn brand identity and become more popular than before which will also benefit
the company because they will become more recognised in the future. Events such as Brexit has made national identity more important. Also, this could be an intertextual reference to previous bands and music movements for example how fun loving brands like Scouting For Girls exaggerate their indie heritage for authenticity even though they make pop music.

I believe that my audience briefs val type would be Achievers and Experiencers The reason why I think Achievers is my audience Val type is because they think image is important and they spend money on well known brands. The reason why I think Experiencers is my audience Val type is because they are young and like spending money. They like eating fast-food, listening to music but also like to be rebellious at times. Overall, I think these val types are the best ones suited to my target audience of 16-25 year olds because they show equalities that a human would have when they are between that age gap.

In my opinion, I believe that the "Reformer", "Struggler", "Explorer" and "Mainstreamers" best fit my target audience of a 16-25 year old mass market demographic. The reason why I have chosen the reformer is because they have an aggressive side to their personality. The reason why I have chosen the struggler is because they are seen as disorganised and they like to consume a lot of junk food and alcohol at their age. The reason why I have chosen the explorer is because some members of my target audience are driven by new challenges and frontiers and that their need in life is for discovery. The reason why i have decided that Mainstreamers fit into my young and rubicam types is because my audience are part of a group which is symbolised by my singing collective at the end of the end of the song. Overall, I think that these four cross cultural consumer characterisation models fit perfectly into who my target audience is for my music video.
Mosaic profiling
I have chosen Suburban comfort and Urban intelligence as my mosaic profiling for my target audience. The reason why I have chosen Suburban comfort is because they have moderate incomes and they like to use the internet as their media. I believe this would appeal more to the older people in my target audience age range as they will be earning more and may own a house. The reason why I have chosen Urban intelligence is because they are young educated people (possible still in education) and also one of their favourite types of media is the internet. This would appeal more to the younger people in my target audience because they have either just finished education or they are still in some sort of education and they are just starting out in life. Overall, I think that these two categories are best fitted to my target audience.
