Website analysis

ED SHEERAN

Describe the visual elements on the home page. What caught your eye first?
The first thing that caught my eye was the big picture of what seems like to be from his new music video. This hooked my into wanting to watch his new video and have my own opinion about it.

If there are images on the page, do they add value to the content, or are they for decoration and appeal? If they add value, describe how.
The images do add value to the content because they are all linked to the artist for example he has merchandise of his recent albums and also he has pictures of places where he has performed at. This adds value because it shows that he wants to show users of the website what they can consume.

How well does the layout of text help viewers understand the main points of the site content? Does the text layout and style follow an appropriate structure? If so, how does the structure help viewers understand the content?
The layout of text follows an appropriate structure because it is all in line with each other and it is all the same size, colour and font which shows that the artist wants to tell people that he is professional and that he doesn't want to be portrayed as childish.

Are any of the elements repeated on subsequent pages? Are the elements decorative or part of the navigation?
There is only one element that is repeated and that is his social media accounts and also entering your email to know straight away when Ed Sheeran has released new music.

Does the repetition help or hinder the overall purpose of the website?
How consistent is the use of colour?
The colour is very consistent and doesn't change throughout the whole of the website. The repetition helps a lot because if you missed it on the first page you were looking at you can get it on a different web page.

How consistent are fonts and font sizes? In what ways do the text styles vary?
The font and font sizes are the exact same on every page of the website apart from the title which is a different font and size to make it stand out to the viewers of the website. This shows consistency because a website wants to be consistent to make it look professional.

Does the colour scheme add to the purpose or tone of the site?
The colour scheme of the website adds to the tone of the site because its a simple formatted website so the colour scheme of black and white fits right into the tone of the site.

How is the artist represented on the webpage?
The artist is represented in a way that shows that he is interested in music and he is very passionate about the music he produces and performs.

Is there an image of them? Are there lots of images? There is only a couple of images of the artist but they are lots of images as a whole E.G = album covers, place he has performed and merchandise that he sells.

How frequently is their name used?
His name is not frequently used on the website. The only main way in which his name is used is in the title at the top of each web page on the website.

Is there a biography?
There isn't a biography.

What else can we find out about the artist (hobbies, interests, relationships, place of birth, etc.)
We can't find anything out about the artist on their website, we can only find out about how to follow them on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Also we can find out how to follow the artist on Spotify  which is a must streaming app.

What overall impressions are created by the website?

My overall impressions are that the layout and design of the website have been done very well but, it is missing some elements for example a description of himself and facts about himself.

What is the most effective and least effective sections?

The most effective section of the website is the latest news section about the artists music. The least effective section on the website is the photos page.

What can you use from this website when planning your own? What ideas can you incorporate?

The ideas i can incorporate from the website such as how to layout my website, the colour scheme and many other things. However, i am also taking some more hints on what i need to include in my own website is that i need to add in a biography or about page to do with the artist.

JUSTIN BIEBER

Describe the visual elements on the home page. What caught your eye first?

The content of the website that caught my eye straight away was the slideshow of the different collaborations and information about a new tour that he is going on.

If there are images on the page, do they add value to the content, or are they for decoration and appeal? If they add value, describe how.

All of the images on the website do add value to website because they are all related to the artist and what he is producing. Some of the images are to do with the album covers so that gives value to the content.
How well does the layout of text help viewers understand the main points of the site content?

The layout of the site helps the viewers to understand the main points of the site because it is all relevant information and the structure has been done very professionally so it is clear to what the users of the website are looking at.

Does the text layout and style follow an appropriate structure? If so, how does the structure help viewers understand the content?

The text layout follows an appropriate layout because its all the same size, colour and font but the title of things E.G = songs are a different font, colour and size to make them stand out. Everything else in terms on structure with the text is very well because the are in line with each other bit of text on each web page.

Are any of the elements repeated on subsequent pages? Are the elements decorative or part of the navigation?

The only features of the website that are repeated are the title of the artist, his social media accounts and finally the navigation bar.

How consistent is the use of colour?

The consistency of the colour is very consistent because it is the same colour scheme on every web page apart from the different colours that are on the photos.

How consistent are fonts and font sizes? In what ways do the text styles vary?

The fonts are and font sizes are consistent because its the same size and same font and the same colour. The only difference is that the titles are different to the description.

Does the colour scheme add to the purpose or tone of the site?

The colour scheme adds to the purpose of the site because its a simple black and white colour scheme and it links to some of the artists music videos because they are filmed in black and white just like the website.

How is the artist represented on the webpage?

The artist is represented on the website as a superstar who likes performing infant of large numbers of crowds.

Is there an image of them? Are there lots of images?

There are some images of the artist but there is a lot of images as a whole. Most of the images are the album and single covers.

How frequently is their name used?

Their name is used very frequently all over the web pages.

Is there a biography?

There isn't a biography

What else can we find out about the artist (hobbies, interests, relationships, place of birth, etc.)

We can't find out anything about this information.

What overall impressions are created by the website?

My impressions of this website is that the layout and colour scheme have been constructed professionally and i like the idea of having photos as links to certain things.

What is the most effective and least effective sections?

The most effective section is the news page because it gives you a variety of information to find out about the artists music. The least effective section is the home page because i just don't think that people will look at that page for very long.

What can you use from this website when planning your own? What ideas can you incorporate?

What i can incorporate from this website is the layout structure, the colour schemes and finally the idea of having pictures as links to other places.

RIHANNA

Describe the visual elements on the home page. What caught your eye first?

The first thing that caught my eye was the mass amount of pictures of the artist herself. In my opinion , i think its a bit to busy on the home page because as well as all of them pictures being there, they are all links to certain pieces of content.
If there are images on the page, do they add value to the content, or are they for decoration and appeal? If they add value, describe how.
The images do add value to the content but they are also for decoration to portray the mood board effect of herself.
How well does the layout of text help viewers understand the main points of the site content?
The layout of the text makes you understand the main points because they are next to a picture that it links with to show its importance. This is good for a website because if they had lots of information just on a page, then people might not be able to understand what the text means.
Does the text layout and style follow an appropriate structure? If so, how does the structure help viewers understand the content?
The text layout and style follow an appropriate structure because the text is next to a picture to make ore sense to the users of the website. Also, the structure has been created very well because the information is underneath one another in an organised fashion.

Rihannas website does have a biography which is good because unlike like other artist websites it does have one. This is good for new viewers to the website because then they can find out a bit about the artist and what songs they sing etc.
